Celebration of 2017 Nurses and Midwives Day/Commissioning of Ashanti Regional secretariat and Guest House

The Commissioning of the GRNMA secretariat and Guest House at Ejisu Krappa in the Ashanti region took place on 17th May, 2017 in a colorful ceremony at the forecourt of the edifice. The commissioning was tied to the launch and celebration of the Nurses Week in the region.

The occasion was chaired by the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Mr. Kwame Nyanteh. The special guest of honour, Otumfour Osei Tutu II was represented by Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sakordie II. Other dignitaries present at the function were the Ashanti Regional minister, Hon. Simeon Osei Mensah and the Ashanti Regional health director, the President of the Association, the General Secretary and other national and regional executives.

The Keynote address speaker, Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm, MP for Manso Nkwanta constituency, in his address called on all and sundry to add their voice to the need to stop the illegal gold mining trade in Ghana popularly known as Galamsey. He explained the health implications of Galamsey activities on humans life and how the continuation of the menace would never allow Ghana to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. He pledged his continuous fight against Galamsey in the Ashanti region and called on individuals, communities and the whole Ghanaian society to stand up and fight for the future of Ghana's unborn generation.

The region took the opportunity to honour past executives of the region, district best nurse nominees and other nurses and Midwives who had contributed to the growth of the regional branch of the Association.

The edifice was consecrated by Pr. Phillip Akwasi Opoku and the plaque was unveiled by Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkordie II.
