In Honour of the Late, Prince Opuni Frimpong.
“The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away, to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter in peace. They find rest as they lie in death.” Isaiah 57:1-2
The day, Saturday, 17th of August, 2024 will remain monumental in the annals of the history of our Association. That was the day everything momentarily
came to a standstill with deep grief, shock and disbelief on hearing the sad news of the sudden death of our brother, friend and colleague, the late Prince Opuni Frimpong.
Today, the President and the National Council of the
Association, Regional and District representatives,
management and staff of the Association are gathered here to honour our departed brother, friend and
colleague. We are deeply overwhelmed with grief as we pay our last respect to Prince, as he was affectionately called, through this transitional ceremony. Indeed, deep down in our hearts, we sincerely share in the grief of all assembled here and that our tears will flow and continue to flow for a very long time.
In the writings of one eminent poet is the philosophy that “there is no condition that confines individuals to attain honour or dishonor. All that must be done by individuals, is for them to play their parts very well and that surely bestow on them honour and glory”. Surely, to the entire membership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Prince was a man of many
parts, a leader par excellence, who played his part very well and that our converging here today to honour him through this solemn celebration is well in place.
Our departed brother was a very dedicated member of
the Association and a very committed and loyal one
indeed. His unwavering commitment was amply displayed right from the local level where he began and exhibited his leadership attributes as the District Secretary of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Branch of the Association from 2003 to 2011. By dint of hard work, he moved a
step further up the leadership ladder to become the Regional Secretary for the Greater Accra Region. Until he was called into eternity by his Maker, Prince was the Regional Chairman and was dutifully serving his second term in office. He was also the National Youth Coordinator of the Association and represented the Association at various international conferences
organized by the Public Services International and the West Africa Health Services Unions Network
(WAHSUN) among others.
To the GRNMA youth
segment, Prince was not only a coordinator and leader, but also a mentor, an inspirer and a wonderful guardian.
Indeed, we saw in our late brother and colleague an
embodiment of dedication, compassion and humility. He was very sociable, accommodating and very principled.
He was a peace-maker, a counselor and an inspirer. His respect for people, both young and old, had no limit. He was ever ready to share, encourage and help. He
exhibited these qualities and virtues in abundance and to the admiration of all and sundry. Anyone who had the privilege of associating with him during his life-time, will undoubtedly, attest to this fact. The Association as a family has indeed lost a leader and a luminary.
How we would have wished he stayed longer, but the
Good Book says in Ecclesiastics 3: 1-2 that “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die.” Yes, it is also true as observed by some traditional poets that, “the person that the living would like to keep forever is the one that death joyfully snatches away”
Our late brother and colleague will always be
remembered with nostalgia, filled with love, affection and with gratitude. His personality, though out of physical existence, shall continue to stand out like a milestone in the midst of time and the good and worthy impressions he created about himself shall forever remain indelible in our minds. His life and accomplishments were worth emulating; his humane character, humility, dedication and disciplined nature are a lasting monument to his memory.
God in His infinite wisdom has called him from this
turbulent world to a well-deserved eternal rest. We, therefore, join in the large but solemn chorus to wish him farewell. May the Good LORD grant him a peaceful and glorious rest in His bosom.
To his widow, children and family, it is our fervent prayer that the Good LORD Himself be your comforter.
ONCE AGAIN, PRINCE, FARE THEE WELL. TILL WE
MEET AGAIN SOME DAY!!!
