Short Biography

Dr. Kwaku Asante-Krobea

Dr. Asante served as the first Programme Coordinator of the Perioperative and Critical Care Nursing School at Korle-Bu from 1999 to 2004 before being appointed Principal, a position he held until his retirement in 2021.

During his tenure, he led transformational institutional developments including:

  • Establishment of a fully functioning institutional Secretariat
  • Successful negotiation for acceptance of the School under University of Cape Coast mentorship
  • Transformation from Advanced Diploma status to Degree awarding institution
  • Accreditation structures established with NAB and UCC
  • Relocation to a purpose built three storey facility
  • Establishment of a formal Advisory Board
  • Academic and clinical mentorship of junior colleagues
  • Development of Memoranda of Understanding with clinical facilities
  • Integration process into the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives
  • Creation of the Peri Operative and Critical Care Nurses Group platform

Dr. Asante Krobea was the 8th President of GRNMA from 2011 to 2019 and served as General Secretary from 2003 to 2011. He also served on the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives Boards during his presidency.

In 2015, he instituted the Dr. Docia Kisseih Memorial Lecture in honour of the Association’s first President.

Criteria for Nomination

  1. A registered member of GRNMA with a valid PIN
  2. An active member of the Nurse Educators Group under GRNMA
  3. A minimum of 10 years working experience as a nurse or midwife
  4. A minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  5. Evidence of teaching at least three different courses
  6. Evidence of student mentorship or supervision
  7. Evidence of quality course material development including book or chapter
  8. Evidence of contribution to course or research assessment and evaluation
  9. Evidence of engagement in clinical practice or voluntary service
  10. Evidence of involvement in Nursing and Midwifery Council assessment of students
  11. Evidence of attendance or presentation at seminars, symposia, or conferences
