Short Biography
Mrs. Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey
Mrs. Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey worked as a nurse for 38 years and retired as the Deputy Director of Nursing Service of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. She led the Community Psychiatry Team for Ablekuma Central for six years while serving at Mamprobi Polyclinic.
During her seven year tenure as Deputy Director of Nursing Service, she contributed significantly to the quality of nursing care, grooming of staff, mobilizing NGO support to rehabilitate wards, instituting send off events for retired staff, activating weekly nurse manager meetings, enhancing in service education, and introducing an incident record system used for staff appraisal.
She served GRNMA as Assistant General Secretary from 1991 to 1994, General Secretary from 1994 to 2003, and President from 2003 to 2012. She was a Board Member of the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation from 2005 to 2014 and a member of the 12th Governing Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
In 2007, she was awarded the Order of the Volta, Member, by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, in recognition of her distinguished service to nursing and national development.
Criteria for Nomination
- A registered member of GRNMA with a valid PIN
- A minimum of 10 years working experience as a nurse or midwife
- A minimum of 5 to 9 years in a managerial position
- Evidence of transformational leadership
- Evidence of leadership or managerial training including certificate or CPD
- Evidence of tangible achievement during leadership tenure
- Evidence of mentorship and succession planning
- Evidence of contribution to policy, relevant documents, decisions, or initiatives
- Evidence of serving on committees or boards
- Evidence of attendance or presentation at seminars, symposia, or conferences
