N. Kesseih<\/h3>\r\n\r\n <p>\r\n Dr. Docia A. N. Kesseih was the first President and founder of the Ghana Registered Nurses\u2019 Association, serving from 1960 to 1970. She initiated the merger of the Qualified Registered Nurses, the Society of Registered Nurses of Ghana, and the State Registered Nurses into one unified professional body in 1960.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <p>\r\n She became the first Ghanaian Chief Nursing Officer to assume leadership from the British Colonial Government, serving from 1961 to 1974. In 1961, she secured the affiliation of the Ghana Registered Nurses\u2019 Association to the International Council of Nurses and successfully negotiated improved salary scales for nurses in 1962.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <p>\r\n Dr. Kesseih developed a comprehensive National Basic Nurse Education Curriculum and recommended the establishment of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. She influenced the establishment of the Nursing Department at the University of Ghana in 1963, advancing higher nursing education.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <p>\r\n Internationally, she served on the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Nursing for Africa from 1961 to 1983. She was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Council of Nurses from 1969 to 1973 and later served as First Vice President from 1973 to 1977.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <p>\r\n Her national honors include the Member of the Order of the Volta in 1979. In 1984, she was honored by the Government of Ghana with her portrait featured on the 100 cedis note.
