Criteria for Nomination
- A registered member of GRNMA with valid PIN
- A minimum of 5 years working experience
- Evidence of transformational leadership
- Evidence of mentorship and succession planning of staff in midwifery and leadership
- Evidence of contribution to policy/relevant documents/decisions/initiatives at the hospital level
- Evidence of voluntary midwifery service in the hospital and community
- Evidence of serving on committees/boards within the hospital and the community
- Evidence of attendance/presentation at seminars/symposia/conferences
Short Bio of Prof. Ayodele Akiwumi
Prof. Ayodele Akiwumi was the second President of the GRNA from 1971 to 1974 and was also the President of the West African College of Nursing (WACN) from 1995 to 1996. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the Ghanaian Nurse Journal in 1987. Prof. Akiwumi served as the Chairperson of the Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana from 1993 to 1996 and a Board Member of N&MC from 1985 to 1988. She was a Board Member West African Representative of the Commonwealth Nurses’ Federation (1988 – 1999). Prof. Akiwumi was a Member of the Inter-ministerial Committee on the Registered Colleges of Applied Arts, Science and Technology and a Member of the Professional Services Committee, International College of Nurses’ (ICN). She also served as the west African Representative of the Commonwealth Nurses’ Federation (CNF) from 1970 to 1974. She instituted the Celebration of the Nurses Week (Nurses Day) in 1970. She served several terms as Head of Department of Nursing at the University of Ghana where she was instrumental in starting the Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
