GRNMA 6th Annual Dinner and Awards Night

Celebrating Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Under the capable leadership of Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo and her team, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) hosted its 6th Annual Dinner and Awards Night, celebrating nurses and midwives for their relentless and dedicated service to healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The event took place at the prestigious Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel in Accra. It was a night of elegance and celebration, characterized by a vibrant atmosphere filled with style, glamour, and the presence of distinguished personalities. Members from all 10 administrative regions of GRNMA were represented at the event.

Notable dignitaries in attendance included:

  • His Royal Majesty, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyehene and King of the Akyem Abuakwa Kingdom – Special Guest of Honour
  • Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), Minister of Health who was ably represented by the Chief Director, Dr. Hafiz Adam
  • Hon. Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (MP), who was ably represented by Mr. Hamidu Adakurugi, Chief Director, Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment
  • Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service
    Guests were treated to great music, dance, and a sumptuous buffet, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie. Winners in various award categories were presented with plaques, citations, and cash prizes, while the Regional Best Nurses/Midwives received the latest spec of HP laptops in addition to their awards.
    The evening culminated in the presentation of the most prestigious award, the 2025 National Best Nurse/Midwife.

Ms. Beatrice Sewor, a Senior Nursing Officer at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Nkwanta South (Oti Region), was named the National Best Nurse/Midwife 2025. Her leadership played a vital role in the hospital achieving zero maternal mortality between 2024 and 2025, alongside significant improvements in patient management and reductions in in-patient mortality. She was awarded a brand-new Toyota Belta.

Ms. Janet Ogeji Okere, a Senior Midwifery Officer at Shai Osu Doku District Hospital in Dodowa (Greater Accra Region), was recognized as the First Runner-Up, receiving a cash prize of ¢80,000.00, an HP laptop, a plaque, and a citation for her outstanding contributions to maternal and adolescent health.

Ms. Mary Seyram Akoto, a Senior Nursing Officer from Presbyterian Hospital, Assin Praso in the Central Region, was named the Second Runner-Up for her leadership in establishing a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to address neonatal morbidity and mortality. Her efforts were bolstered by effective stakeholder engagement and lobbying, which mobilized support for the NICU project. She received a cash reward of ¢60,000.00.

The Mrs. Ruth Aku Gyang Rural Service Award also celebrated 10 members, one each from the 10 administrative regions.

This followed 12 recipients of the Special Category Award spanning from all walks of the 10 administrative regions.

The latest addition, the President’s Award went to the legendary Nana Gladys Kusi-Yeboah, her citation read;
“In recognition of your distinguished visionary leadership and life-long dedication to maternal and newborn health in Ghana and across Africa as pioneer in Midwifery Practice and international consultant and a key contributor to the development of the WHO Preset Partograph, you strengthen health systems, advanced maternal health policy and mentored generations of healthcare professionals. Your legacy lives on. Ayekoo!”
On top of it, Enterprise Trustees promised to add GH₵5,000 cash to Nana Kusi-Yeboah’s price package.
