WAHSUN Honors Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo at 25th Session

West African Health Sector Union Network (WAHSUN) • ECOWAS Region

The atmosphere at the 25th Session of the West African Health Sector Union Network (WAHSUN) was one of profound reflection and celebration as organized labor leaders from across the ECOWAS sub-region gathered to chart the future of healthcare advocacy.

However, the highlight of the event was a poignant look back at the foundations laid by those who steered the network through transformative years.

In a ceremony filled with camaraderie and professional pride, the network paid glowing tribute to its former leaders.

Standing at the forefront of these honorees was Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the erstwhile Chairperson of WAHSUN and the current President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

She was presented with a distinguished award in recognition of her meritorious contribution to the growth and stability of the sub-regional body.

Her tenure was marked by:

  • Strengthening the collective voice of health workers across West Africa.
  • Fostering bilateral relations between member unions.
  • Advocating for improved working conditions and healthcare standards within the ECOWAS block.

The award was presented by the current Chairman of WAHSUN, Comrade (Dr.) Kabiru A. Minjibir, who lauded her visionary leadership as a blueprint for the network’s ongoing missions.

Joining the presentation was the General Secretary of WAHSUN, Comrade (Dr.) David Tenkorang-Twum, who looked on with appreciation for the legacy of excellence being honored.

For members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), this recognition serves as a proud reminder of the influence Ghanaian leadership holds on the international stage.

As the 25th Session concludes, the spirit of unity and dedication continues to inspire a new generation of union leaders to strive for a healthier, more equitable West Africa.
