ROTATIONAL NURSES AND MIDWIVES ASSOCIATION (RNMA)- A NEW AFFILIATE OF GRNMA

The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA) was launched on Saturday, 31st
October 2020 at the GRNMA Eastern Regional Secretariat and Guest House under the
theme “The impact of Covid-19 on Universal Health Coverage, The Role of Nurses,
Midwives, Stakeholders and Government”.

The event was graced by Nana Akwasi Obugya Asante III Busumbruhene, New Juaben
traditional area who chaired the occasion; Hon. Ike Appaw-Gyasi, New Juaben South
Municipal Chief Executive; Hon. Micheal Baafi Okyere NPP Candidate for New Juaben
South, GRNMA national Executives, Eastern Regional GRNMA Executives, and Religious
leaders.

President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Mrs.
Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo gave the Keynote address.. She stated that for Ghana to attain
Universal Health Coverage by 2030, there was the need for a critical look at the training
and quality of the health workforce especially nurses and midwives, the health
infrastructure and the equipment needed for service delivery, the National Health
Insurance Scheme and Private Insurance schemes, the governance systems at all
levels within the health sector, the regulatory bodies, and the broader health policies
that guide the delivery of health services. She further called on government and
stakeholders to take the bold step of stopping the certificate programs in nursing
and sponsoring the specialist programs at the Ghana College of Nurses and
Midwives. She formally launched the Association jointly with Nana Akwasi Obugya
Asante III.

The President of the Association, Mr. Jerry Mertins indicated that the challenges of rotation
nurses and midwives include delayed payment of allowances and the non-application of
the Single Spine Salary Structure level of 12H and 12L for the degree nurse and diploma
nurses and midwives respectively.
They were advised to lead their members in truth and seek the wisdom of the almighty
God in all that they do.
