GRNMA 19TH BIENNIAL NATIONAL DELEGATES’ CONFERENCE 2025

The 19th Biennial National Delegates’ Conference of the GRNMA was held from 17th–22nd November 2025 at the Modern City Hotel, Tamale with the theme “Harnessing the Economic Power of Nursing and Midwifery Care for National Development.”

Delegates and observers arrived on the first day to a cultural welcome, completed registration, and received conference materials before being transported to assigned accommodations.

The opening ceremony on Day 1 featured dignitaries including the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; the Nanton-Naa, His Royal Majesty Mahamadu V; and Prof. Vida Yakong. Key addresses highlighted nursing workforce shortages, unemployment of trained nurses, migration concerns, and the need for improved incentives and working conditions.

The Minister announced plans for specialist nurse development, ethical migration strategies, implementation of Conditions of Service in the 2026 budget, and proposed PPPs under Agenda 111. Speakers emphasized the economic value of nursing and midwifery, equitable postings, and strengthening primary healthcare toward achieving UHC.

Day 2 focused on scientific and professional advancement sessions. Experts discussed the use of research and data in practice, burnout and mental health, AI integration in healthcare, and climate change impacts. A plenary panel recommended transitioning nursing and midwifery training to degree-entry level and highlighted the need for increased health sector financing beyond the current 8–9%.

On Day 3, standing committees and specialized societies presented their reports, and two motions were adopted. The President encouraged renewed commitment and increased female leadership participation.

Day 4 featured an educational excursion to Mole Game Reserve and other historic sites in the Savannah Region. After a packed week of committee works, panel discussion, motions and the adoption of a final communiqué, delegates and observers finally had the chance to unwind and celebrelate the journey we shared. The conference came to a close with an unforgettable Dinner Night at the Northern Regional Secretariat in Tamale. Indeed it was a fitting end to a purposeful week in Tamale.

Day 5: The conference concluded on the 5th day with regional departures, marking a successful and well-organized national event.
