GRNMA 19TH BIENNIAL NATIONAL DELEGATES’ CONFERENCE 2025

Theme:

“Harnessing the Economic Power of Nursing and Midwifery Care for National Development.”

The 19th Biennial National Delegates’ Conference of the GRNMA was held from 17th–22nd November 2025 at the Modern City Hotel, Tamale.

Delegates and observers arrived on the first day to a cultural welcome, completed registration, and received conference materials before being transported to their assigned accommodations.

Day 1: Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony featured dignitaries including the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; the Nanton-Naa, His Royal Majesty Mahamadu V; and Prof. Vida Yakong.

Key discussions focused on nursing workforce shortages, unemployment of trained nurses, migration concerns, and the need for improved incentives and working conditions.

The Minister announced plans for specialist nurse development, ethical migration strategies, implementation of Conditions of Service in the 2026 budget, and proposed PPPs under Agenda 111.

Day 2: Scientific and Professional Sessions

Experts discussed the use of research and data in practice, burnout and mental health, AI integration in healthcare, and the impacts of climate change on healthcare delivery.

A plenary panel recommended transitioning nursing and midwifery training to degree-entry level and highlighted the need for increased health sector financing beyond the current 8–9%.

Day 3: Committee Reports and Motions

Standing committees and specialized societies presented their reports, while two motions were adopted. The President encouraged renewed commitment and increased female leadership participation.

Day 4: Excursion and Dinner Night

Delegates embarked on an educational excursion to Mole Game Reserve and other historic sites in the Savannah Region.

Following a packed week of committee work, panel discussions, motions, and the adoption of a final communiqué, delegates and observers had the opportunity to unwind and celebrate the shared journey. The conference ended with a memorable Dinner Night at the Northern Regional Secretariat in Tamale.

Day 5: Closing Ceremony

The conference concluded with regional departures, marking a successful and well-organized national event.

Throughout the conference, speakers emphasized the economic value of nursing and midwifery, equitable postings, strengthening primary healthcare systems, and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The event reaffirmed GRNMA’s commitment to advancing the nursing and midwifery profession while contributing meaningfully to national development.
