GRNMA to Launch and Celebrate International Nurses Day 2026

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) is set to officially launch and celebrate International Nurses Day 2026 under the global theme,
Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, 12th May 2026 at 10:00 AM and will take place at the GRNMA National Secretariat, Shiashie, near Gulf House, Accra. It will bring together leaders from health, academia, labour, and public service to honour nurses and midwives.

The celebration aims to recognize the dedication, resilience, and professionalism of nurses and midwives while advocating stronger investment in the nursing workforce to improve healthcare outcomes.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Dr. Fiona Braka of the World Health Organization Ghana office, and chaired by Hon. Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Health.

Other guests include Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea of the Ghana Health Service, Mr. Haruna Mamman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, and Alhaji Dawuda Ibrahim, Chief Labour Officer.

The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Florence Naab of the University of Ghana School of Nursing and Midwifery, focusing on strengthening health systems through nurse empowerment.

The programme will be hosted by the President of GRNMA, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, who continues to advocate for nursing welfare and professional development.

Stakeholders will reflect on the essential role nurses play in advancing quality healthcare, public health, and national development.

The event will be streamed live on official GRNMA social media platforms to allow broad participation.
